Below is an excerpt from an Audio Class on Bhagavad Gita – Chapter 2 – Verse 54-61 by Vraja Bihari Das.

Here we discuss the symptom of a person who is in the consciousness of having the intelligence fixed on Krishna, thus merge in transcendence and spiritual knowledge.
And the main symptoms are…
1. Speech – You will find that a person in transcendence would always talk about Krishna. The best person who demonstrated it is Srila Prabhupada and we share certain pastimes here where he always talked and glorified Krishna.
2. Satisfaction – You will find this person in the consciousness to be satisfied with whatever one have in any situation. A beautiful example of a person who was satisfied was Lal Bahadur Shastri and his pastime is also included here.
3. Purposeful – You will find this person always be in the purpose of his duty, follow his spiritual practices irrespective whether he is in moment of happiness or moments of distress. So during ups and down in his life, his mind is steady and would not give up Krishna Consciousness.
4. Focused Mind – You will find this person keeping his mind focused on Krishna Consciousness and does all practices that would help him not to tend towards material nature.

However, it not easy to say NO to our senses, until it replaces by higher taste. Simple saying NO to senses looking for sense gratification, which leads to dissatisfaction and misery, would not help much. However, when one receive the higher taste of Krishna Consciousness, it is easy to say NO to sense gratification.

As and when you meditate to Lord beauty, as and when you meditate on Lord Krishna, in exact correspondence to that you give up desire for lower things.

But why this higher taste is needed?
The higher taste is needed because the senses in the mind would drag you away, even if you are very strong if there no higher taste.

Now how do we get this Higher taste?
Getting the higher taste is possible by remembering Krishna, connecting with Krishna, by adding the element of Krishna in our day to day life.
