Bhagavad Gita – Chapter 2 – Verse 62-68

Below is an excerpt from an Audio Class on Bhagavad Gita – Chapter 2 – Verse 62-68 by Vraja Bihari Das.

In this section Krishna talks about what will happen if we do not focus on cultivating this Saintly Qualities.

Krishna explains how degradation toward cultivating these qualities takes place. It all begin with contemplation on enjoyment on sense objects, slowly the contemplation leads to attachment. Attachment then leads to lust and lust inevitably leads to anger.

Why lust leads to anger?

Lust is nothing but intense intensity to enjoy. When lusty desires are not fulfilled, angers automatically arises and when lusty desires are fulfilled, more desires come in. But this vicious circle doesn’t end at anger, anger leads to illusion, ability to realize between what is right and what is wrong. And because of this illusion we forget our position, our family culture, our Sanskaras. we forget who we are. One intelligence is completely lost and one actually fall down.

So that what is the solutions to this?

Krishna says if we follow rules and regulations we can control our senses and not only that we obtain the mercy of the lord. Following rules and regulations in spiritual life would actually provide you with more freedom and lasting happiness.

How rules and regulation can provide you with more freedom?

We need to first understand the four pillar and civilized human society and they are Truthfulness, Cleanliness, Compassion and Austerity. And there are 4 vices that breaks these pillars and they are destroyed by Gambling, Illicit Sex, Animal killing & eating and intoxication. So when you follow the 4 regulative principals which is avoiding the 4 vices and chanting the holy names, you would get more control on your senses and its invite more freedom and attract causeless mercy of the lord.

Krishna also share the benefit of following these rules and regulation and that is we can become peaceful and satisfied and we can relieved from the miseries cause by 3 fold of material nature – mind and body, other living entities and this material nature and the miseries caused by the 3 modes of nature. As we are suffering in this world, we need to working for our goals and the first goal is Peace and then happiness, however the final goal is to generate loving service towards the lord. However, the mind can drag and it start focuses on sense gratification, disillusioning ones intelligence leading to a fall down of oneself. And therefore, one has to master control of their senses.
