The morning hours- a game changer! – Part 2

The morning is God’s way of saying, “C’mon I give you another chance; go make a difference, touch a heart, encourage someone, inspire a soul, be happy.” It’s a chance for us to take birth again, to write a new chapter in the book called life!

Make the right choice!

Unfortunately, many wake up with the hangover of the previous day; they lament about the past or anxiously plan for the unfolding day. Unwittingly they have dropped a meaningless ‘stone’ into the lake. The result – the mind’s ripples drags you helplessly into the same negative thought patterns.

For instance, if the first thing you do on waking up is plan for the day, then later when you are in the middle of an event, the mind would seek to plan again – you have conditioned it to plan for future. The mind refuses to be in the present. Or if you rise to muse over your boss’s temperamental behaviour, you invite needless anxiety during your office hours.

We want to be happy. We want everything in our lives to settle just the way we like but little do we realize that we have minute control on the world and its people. We can however, make the right choices in our inner world. When we do, we then realize that the world is beautiful outside only when there is stability inside.

And it all begins with the first thought and practise of the day. Steve jobs revealed in his Stanford address in 2005, “for the past thirty three years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been no for too many days, I know I need to change something.”

The pre-dawn advantage

During the day, traffic gets busier, cars honk, the air is polluted with smoke and there are far too many people on the roads. But early in the morning you can drive smoothly on a clear road. Likewise as the day progresses, the mind gets clogged up with thousands of issues. But early in the morning you can drive a long distance on your inner journey. There is clarity as the muddle hasn’t yet crept in. Before it does, you can choose gratitude and prayers. You’ll then be gone a long distance into the realm of divinity – a whole different world of positivity and grace, before the daily business settles in. By the time the distracting, negative elements ready themselves to strike within your mind, you’d have kept a safe distance from them.

To be continued…
