Following is an excerpt from the lecture on The Science behind the Varnashrama Dharma – Vraja Bihari Das.
The supreme personality of Godhead, Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita that there are four categories of the Varnasharam Dharma and they are Brahmins, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudras. They all must be present in the society. The Brahmins are required for the development of whole society and if there is no such institution like Varnashrama Dharma and also if human society has no such guide of a Brahmin then human society will be hellish. In Kalyuga, especially at the present moment, there is no such thing as real Brahmins and therefore the society is in the chaotic condition. Formally there were qualified Brahmins, but at present there are people who consider themselves as Brahmins have actually no ability to guide the society. The Krishna consciousness moment therefore is very much eager to reintroduce the Varnashrama system in the human society so that those who are less intelligent will be able to take guidance from qualified Brahmins.
People in general must be guided to the destination of goal of life and therefore they must understand Vishnu, The Supreme Personality of Godhead. The whole system of Vedic knowledge is based on this principle but people have lost the clue and they are simply pursuing sense gratification with the risk of gliding down with a lower grade of life. No one is born a Brahmin, everyone is born Shudra but by the guidance the Brahmin and by Sanskara, one can be born twice and then one can gradually become a Brahmin. Brahmanism is not a system, not it is meant to create monopoly to a particular class of men. Everyone is to be educated so as to become a Brahmin, at least there must be an opportunity to allow everyone to attend the destination of life regardless whether one is born in a Brahmin family, Kshatriya family, Vaishya Family or Shudra family, one may be guided by a proper Brahmin and be promoted to the highest platform of being Vaishnava. Thus the Krishna consciousness efforts an opportunity to develop the right destiny for human society.
As long as we have a desire to demand respect, rather than command it, then degradation is unstoppable. So when one becomes attached to position and facilities within an institutional structure then it is nature that degradable things will happen.
