Lord Chaitanya’s pastimes – Part-40

Lord Chaitanya replied, “You are a pure devotee of Krishna. Any words spoken by a pure devotee are perfect. Anything a pure devotee writes, even if by material considerations there are faults, it is still considered to be flawless. That’s because it is done with a pure desire to love and serve Krishna. And if anyone considers any fault in such a work, he is a great offender and is condemned. You are a pure devotee of Krishna and whatever you do is perfect.”

When Isvara Puri heard Lord Chaitanya glorify the path of pure Bhakti, he became happy. Then he said, “Still, as a service, please point out any corrections that needs to be done.”

One evening after Isvara Puri’s class, Nimai explained that in one particular section of the book, the proper usage of the verb could be different than what he had written; Nimai suggested an alternative. Then Lord Chaitanya left. The next day, Isvara Puri said to the Lord, “I considered what you said. But actually the verb I used is technically correct. There is no mistake there. So I will leave it as it is.”

Lord Chaitanya as Nimai Pandit was the greatest scholar mankind had ever seen. He could defeat anyone easily. He was soon going to defeat the great Digvijay Pandit, Keshav Kashmiri. But when his spiritual master corrected him and told him he was wrong, Lord Chaitanya with great love and devotion, accepted defeat from his devotee.

Similarly, when Srila Prabhupada met his spiritual master, Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur at the Ulta Dunga road in Kolkatta, at the Gaudiya matha, he said, “You are asking me to spread the teachings of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu but who will hear these teachings? The country is a dependent colony. We first need independence from the British.” Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati explained, “No, Krishna consciousness is a real emergency. It can’t wait for independence. Governments will always change. But the real occupation of the soul is pure devotional service to Krishna. The waves of time will always transform material situations. But the eternal truth of devotional service to Krishna must be established today. It cannot wait for freedom from the British Empire. The only real problem in the world is lack of Krishna consciousness and the only solution is Krishna consciousness.”
