Lord Chaitanya’s pastimes – Part -23

Nimai said, “Mother, when you water the root of the tree, all the branches and twigs are also satisfied. I am the source of all that exists. All demigods and goddesses are my servants. By satisfying me all of them are also pleased.” Sachi mata couldn’t understand what her little one was saying. Out of her parental affection, she went to the goddess and prayed for redemption. “Please forgive my son, oh mother” she said in her supplication to the goddess, “Nimai is after all a small child; he knows no better. Please protect him always and let him always remain with me in happiness.” Then she went to her friends and begged them to bless Nimai. “Please bless my son that he is always protected; he is always healthy and lives forever.” This way mother Sachi exhibited the nature of her intimate motherly love for sri chaitanya mahaprabhu.

One day Murari Gupta was walking with his friends and he recited verses from yoga vashista- a treatise on yoga sutras that discussed the glories of karma yoga and jnana yoga. Nimai followed Murari Gupta and made fun of him. He imitated his talking and whatever Murari Gupta said, Nimai repeated it as it is, but in a funny voice, to make a joke at Murari Gupta’s expense. Everyone laughed as Nimai imitated; Murari Gupta was angry. He asked Nimai why he was behaving like that. Nimai pronounced, “Today during lunch, you’ll get a sublime realization on this question that you are asking of me.”

Murari Gupta went home and was served lunch. At that time, Nimai, dressed in a perfect disguise arrived at his house. Nimai had colourful dress, facial decorations, curly, flowing hair and as Murari wondered who this beautiful child was, Nimai ran up to the lunch plate of Murari Gupta. There, to his utter shock, Murari Gupta saw the supreme personality of godhead, Lord Chaitanya, in the form of a small boy, passed urine on his food plate. As Murari sat shell shocked, Nimai giggled and said, “You should not mix karma yoga with bhakti- it’s nothing but mixing tasty food, which is like bhakti, with urine like non devotional practises.” Then Nimai ran away.
