One day Jagannath Mishra left for the town of nawadwip for some work. During the day, gaura hari, sat on a pile of old used cooking pots. These pots had blackened and the soot was all over the golden form of Nimai. People went to Sachi mata and said, “Your son is sitting on a contaminated pile of pots. It is so dirty.” Mother Sachi reached the spot and told her son, “oh Nimai what are you doing? This is a very dirty place. Come and take bath in the Ganga.” Vishwambhar replied, “if you do not allow me to study, and if it’s your desire that I remain uneducated, then how do you expect me to discriminate between what is clean and what is dirty; what is right or wrong; what is good and bad?” Nimai then manifested the form of dattatreya, the incarnation of supreme lord, and told his mother, “I am the purifier of all places. Whatever I touch becomes a holy place. Nothing can make me impure. I am all pure. By my touch everything becomes purified.” Nimai thus revealed his supreme position as the bhagavan- the lord with all opulences, but due to the covering of his yoga maya potency, his mother could not understand her son’s position. Nimai then said, “Oh mother, these pots are cooked for Vishnu and anything used for the service of lord Vishnu is all pure. But if you do not allow me to study, how do you expect me to understand?”
Then the towns’ people who had assembled there told mother Sachi, “why are you not allowing your son to study? What kind of parents are you? We have children and they hate to study. We go through so much ordeal to make them study. We have to preach to them, punish them or take so many things away from them, all just to make them study. And you are so lucky because your child loves to study. Who has given you this nonsense information that studies are not good for your son?”
Then Sachi mata climbed on top of the pots and brought Nimai down, gave him a bath and decorated him with nice garments.
