Lord Chaitanya’s pastimes – Part-28

Jagannath Mishra declared, “I vow that as long as I am alive, our child Nimai will never live in want of anything. If “Krishna wants him to have nice facilities and opulence, that will come.”

Then he called Nimai and said, “From this day on, you will not study.” Vishwambar was not happy because he loved studies. However, Jagannath Mishra did this as a pre-emptive move to ensure his son doesn’t follow Vishwarupa’s footsteps. He was very afraid of Nimai leaving home.

When Vishwarupa left, all vaishnavas were broken hearted to lose his association and also simultaneously elated to see the child had taken sannyasa. Devotees who gathered at advaita acharya’s house said, “How will we live without the association of such a wonderful devotee like Vishwarupa?” They began to cry. “He knew this world is full of materialistic people and has therefore left for the forest. We will also leave our homes and society and go on the path of renunciation. Vishwarupa couldn’t see the face of the materialistic people; we will also follow his footsteps.”

With that resolve as they were about to leave, advaita acharya got an inspiration. “Do not go anywhere,” he told the devotees, “I strongly feel that the supreme personality of godhead has already descended into this world and in a short time we will be chanting and dancing with him. Until then, let us be happy and wait for the lord by chanting his holy names.” The devotees then began the loud sankirtan of Hare Krishna hare Krishna Krishna Krishna hare hare hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare.

At that very moment, Vishwambhar appeared on the scene in the presence of advaita acharya and all vaishnvas. He was dressed in only the four directions. His body was covered with dust and he looked exceedingly beautiful. All devotees looked at the beautiful lord, and felt stunned in ecstasy. Their chanting stopped. Advaita acharya asked, “oh Nimai why did you come here?” Nimai smiled and said laughingly, “why have you called me?” No one could understand the cryptic message of the lord; he was hinting that his descent happened because advaita acharya had fervently prayed for the lord to appear.
